Musings Of A Product Junkie

‘Product addiction’ is one serious problem which is not listed anywhere in the medical dictionary but people do face it in their everyday lives and I am one such person. If you are unable to resist the latest product in the market and engaging yourself in shopping spree is a relaxing resort for you, then chances are that you are a product junkie too! There are products junkies of different categories- some have an excessive impulse for hair products, beauty items, clothes, shoes etc. Indulging in the compulsive purchase of products in sight and staying forever on a mission to find the next best thing is not a good practice I can tell you that much. In this post I talk about being a product junkie and what are the negative impacts (apart from the fact that being a product junkie is expensive) of hoarding the products as you are not going to use them frequently.

Hoarders’ Paradise is not healthy: Financially speaking. Most times we buy several of the same items and they end up not being used. What happens next is that the item has to be thrown away which automatically becomes a waste of hard earned money. Moving forward my focus will be more on purchasing what I really need in order to save money. This will also help me to accomplish some goals that I have been working towards way quicker.

It’s not about Quantity but Quality: Having a collection that you love and use irrespective of size is more valuable than owning those products which you don’t even remember last using! In words of Warren Buffet, ‘price is what you pay and value is what you get’! But if by buying the products and hoarding them in one corner of your house, you are not receiving any value then your investment in those products is completely a waste. So don’t make your house a graveyard of half used products!

You damage your natural beauty: If your inclination is towards beauty, skin and hair products then using different products can damage your natural beauty. Not every product on the earth is going to suit you perfectly (unless you are very lucky) and thus trying different products can give you tough time! Listen, I was having the acne outbreaks I seriously had to slow my roll. As a product junkie I sometimes pick up products without deciphering their goodness. My skin and hair have been left brittle, dry and prone to breakage.

Having natural hair makes it worst: I have so much natural hair products lying around it is ridiculous. I am sure other naturals can relate to this. Trying to get the most defined twist out or wash n’ go takes the right products and that sometimes can be hard to find. This is where the careful reading of reviews comes in place.

I have decided to give up on this habit and over the next few weeks I will be cleaning out, clearing out and just freeing up my space. I will be venturing on a journey of minimalism and I will be taking you guys along with me on this journey.

Are you a product junkie? How have you been dealing with struggle?
